Summary of China Female Condom (FC) Project Conference
October 26-27, 2009

Conference Background
The first project-wide conference for the China/U.S. Women's Health Project* was held in October, 2009. Staff from all 4 study sites (Guangxi Province and Hainan Province CDCs and local township health staff from each of the study towns) and researchers from ICR and Peking Union Medical College attended the conference. Research staff presented formative, process, and outcome findings from the first half of the study, and intervention staff shared their experiences conducting the research and intervention to promote female condoms (FC) in sex work establishments in the first 3 study sites. Two guest speakers from Nanjing College for Population Program Management also gave presentations on their intervention program to promote FC through family planning and on general contraceptive methods.

Goals of the conference included the following:

	Identify lessons learned from our experiences studying women in sex work.
	Identify how the project can be improved.
	Identify what experiences can be applied to their other work.
	If other CDCs wish to replicate this project, identify what they should do the same and what they should do differently.

Feedback was extremely positive from project staff on the value of
this conference as a means to increase their exposure to others with
common interests and a shared effort to expand knowledge and use of FC
in high risk and general populations.
