Julia Dickson-Gomez, Ph.D., is a medical anthropologist and a Research Associate at the Institute for Community Research. On many ICR projects, she studies populations at high risk of contracting HIV. Julia currently serves as a Principal Investigator on the studies “Crack Use and Related Sexual Risk in El Salvador” and “Housing Status/Stability and HIV Risk Among Drug Users.” She is a Co-Investigator for the projects “HIV Prevention in High-Risk Drug Sites: Project RAP,” “Longitudinal Study of the RAP Peer Intervention for HIV Prevention,” and “Sustained Female Condom Use in High-Risk Women to Prevent HIV.” Julia’s research interests include substance abuse, HIV/AIDS prevention, and structural violence. Before coming to ICR, Julia consulted on the design and evaluation of a United Nations Development Program study of drug use and violence in El Salvador.
