Maryann Abbott, M.A. is currently Project Director for a research study entitled Enhancing HIV Prevention through Multi-level Community Intervention to Promote Women-Initiated Prevention Options.  This 4-year NIMH-funded study is designed to increase the availability, accessibility, and support for use of the female condom. For the past 11 years, Maryann’s work at the Institute for Community Research has focused primarily on women’s reproductive health in the US and China, HIV/AIDS prevention with vulnerable populations and multi-level interventions and implementations .  Maryann is also a member of ICR's Institutional Review Board and holds a B.A. from the University of Connecticut, and a M.A. in Anthropology from California State University, Long Beach.

Maryann is currently working on the Enhancing HIV Prevention through Multi-level Community Intervention to Promote Women-Initiated Prevention Options project. Her previous projects at ICR have included Sustained Safe Behavior in High-Risk Women to Prevent HIV, Engaging Clinical Health Care Providers in Female Condom Promotion, High-Risk Establishments and Women’s HIV Risk in Southern China, Microbicide Acceptability to Prevent HIV in High-Risk Women, Female Condom Use as a Predictor of Microbicide Readiness, and Supplement to the Longitudinal Study of AIDS Risk among Drug Users
