Ellen Cromley, Ph.D. in Geography, is a medical geographer at ICR. Medical geography is a field of study that investigates spatial patterns of health and disease, the spatial organization of health services and geographical factors that affect their utilization, and medical mapping, especially using GIS. Her research interests include the use of GIS to characterize the environmental contexts that affect behavior and health outcomes. She has most recently investigated community trails as settings for physical activity, the relationship between community trails and the characteristics of the neighborhoods where they are located. Ellen’s strengths are in spatial data analysis and GIS applications in public health. She was a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Connecticut before she joined ICR. She has taught workshops on GIS and public health for the Agency for Healthcare Research Quality, Academy Health, the American Diabetes Association, and the Summer Program of the Center for Biostatistics, School of Public Health, The Ohio State University.
